Las Meninas Goyaesques
Three
dancing Meninas have been stolen from the painting by Velasquez.
However, these transfigured dancers have also inherited the spirit of
Goya's ribald peasantry and so their imagery is somewhat coarse and
approximate in its realisation.
The
same courtier resides in the open-door background as in the original
painting, and observes the changing times beside the ghostly
reflection of the Spanish king and queen |
